Publishing notes to Evernote

Have you ever wanted to be able to automatically tag your pictures based on the text on them? What about having a searchable catalog of every note you publish?

Evernote has just launched their API and we made it available to you immediately. The Evernote connector lets you automatically publish notes with a text body and an optional picture.

The Evernote connector

The connector will publish the note on Evernote and will attempt to receive the corresponding text recognition. If Evernote recognizes any text in the image, that text can be used through the tags output.

You can, for instance, use this automatic text recognition to populate the tags on pictures you send to flickr. To start using this connector right away you just need to authorize us to publish to your Evernote account and that's it.

  1. Awesome! Is this using Evernote’s OAuth implementation?

  2. Hi Chris,

Yes, it’s using the Evernote’s OAuth implementation. Supporting OAuth made this development so much easier than having to deal with some form of proprietary authentication.

  4. Bruno,

Tarpipe is fascinating! I really love the ramifications this could have to simplifying our lives in this social-networking world.

    Two questions…

    1) Is there going to be a way to automatically insert tags into Evernote? Right now, there is no specific input for tags in the Evernote connector.

    2) While I like the recognitionData output on the Evernote connector, I’m not exactly sure if that would be a popular method for tagging images within Flickr or other accounts.

IMHO that the among the myriad of ways people tag their photos, selecting the text from the photo is low on the list. As an example, assume you go on a trip to an African village where the local people are wearing colorful dress. And you take a picture with them, wearing your UCLA sweatshirt (or something). And someone happens to be drinking some water in an empty Coca-Cola bottle. Assuming Evernote picks up these two words in it’s scan of the image, are these really the two tags (UCLA, Coca-Cola) that you would assign to this picture?

Basically, it is the user’s responsibility to tag a picture or note, in my opinion. Not based on OCR from within the image. Would it be possible to add an input/output for tags in the Evernote connector in the near future?

Thanks again for such a wonderfully useful product!
